The Forged Alliance campaign missions have "timed expansion" (the map will expand after a certain amount of time even if you haven't completed the objective)
This makes them more difficult than the original GPG version of the Forged Alliance campaign missions. (At least, if you are a slowpoke; if they are moving through them quickly, the difficulty is the same.)
The campaign missions from the ORIGINAL supcom do not have timed expansion.
Obviously you can abuse this to "max out" within your supply cap. E.g., you can make 70 janus instead of 10 janus and 50 interceptors, and use the janus as beefy interceptors, or you can ring all your t1 mexes to get 50% more mass, or in later missions you can build 20 monkeylords before you complete a minor objective, so you are ready to mess up the AI as soon as the map expands, etc. Not exactly compelling gameplay, but . . . it is something you can do.
Also, you can set the difficulty with options, in the same place that you would choose to enable full share. I believe the default difficulty setting is "hard" but it is possible at some point you lowered it.
