Ai stagging is crazy efficient for the price. I see no reason to have them at t1.
You can build ten of them for very little resources.

They're cumbersome to use, so we often tend to forget about them, but t1 won't solve that.

I think the best solution is to have an option you can tick for "automatic return to airstaging" when they're low on fuel.

As stated earlier, patrol is not a good thing for asf to be on.

Or, if you don't have enough planes to kill a spy plane before it breaks through, your ASF shouldn't be on patrol, or they should be on a smaller patrol.

If i have to babysit my Airforce because of the patrol move then patrol defeats its very own purpose (guarding an area on its own) imho.

Spy planes are faster than ASF so the problem doesn't lie in the plane breaking through but in the spy plane getting past the asf on the side of the patrol move.

Also having your Airforce on patrol means that they use fuel which you might want to have if you want to intercept enemy air forces and since t2 airstaging is kind of inefficient you might end up with lots of asf not being able to fight after some time due to low fuel.

It sounds like you're asking for a "click and forget" method of taking care of units where they magically do what is ideal (killing scouts, not chasing them, avoiding flak, w/e). Taking care of your units is part of the game -- reacting to radar signatures, kiting with kiting units, dodging arty fire with a low health acu, etc. Why should you get a click and forget with ASF when you don't for any other unit?

And yes, at any point a portion of your air force could be low on fuel, but that is the price for leaving them on patrol. IMO the air staging facility does exactly what it is supposed to do. No unit is perfect, and that's what makes the game fun and engaging. If you want a click and forget game, supcom is not for you.

I think you're missing the point entirely codepants.

Doing something (setting them on patrol) give you more to do, wastes fuel, is not a good move.
That's odd by itself.

And this is completely irrev to the idea of having at least a button to tell planes to refuel, ideally a toggle to do it automatically when they reach low fuel.

Well ther is a "go refuel" button , but I think to recall that they tend to all go queue at the same station even if you have ten. And then they don't return to patrol.

I've almost never used air staging but I tried it on an Eye of the Storm ladder game recently and they were really good, I'll definitely be building them on maps where you are using inties intensively e.g. eots or sera glaciers. They're also good if you're making lots of gunships and manage not to throw them away, repairing is very effective. Most maps there isn't much reason to use them however.

but what do you want ? if on an move order they go refuel, it can get f*** up pretty fast...
you are going for an air fight, and suddenly half your asf just automatically goes back to refuel because they are on 10% fuel...
it's an extreme exemple i know. But if you set like they go refuel by themself on 10% fuel and no order given, you may still don't want them to go back refuel by themself.
