A unit cannon would be devistating as units can bypass shields.

Check out the BrewLAN mod, it has a UEF Unit cannon called Ivan Drop Pod Artillery. It fires 3 at a time. However, they die if they impact on shield. The 3 units land within a fairly wide radius and then go to the aimpoint. So one way to use that is fire them outside enemy base then go in, but if its got heavy defense of course they won't make it. Firing into a shielded base is basically futile, you have to down the shields somehow.

I thought of making a unit cannon for the Seraphim, firing Othuy. They'd have to be scaled as the base Othuy does like 30k+ damage in its 30 second life.

Funny I see all the bitching about firebeetles. Been sniped once or twice that way, no more than any other. Fairly easily counter able with T2 AA and/or PDs. Its very difficult to get the transport to drop right on top of the ACU, so you generally have some ground run time. I've only managed to beetle snipe someone a couple times, more often than not it gets intercepted, drops too far off target and the beetles die to unit fire or not enough of them survive to finish the ACU. Had more success with T2 Cyb FBs sniping.

unit cannon makes air entities that make units on impact, killed by AA easily or destroyed by interceptors. Not so OP though
