I think you should compare scu ras to mass fab (and not mexx, because no one expend after getting their t3 mexx up)
And you can get your mass fab near mexx mass storage, so if you shield mexx, you shield mass fab too

According to the unit database

(Aeon) SCU: resource allocation system costs 4500 mass and 60000 energy
It generates 10 mass and 1000 energy.

(Aeon) 10 T2 massfabs + 1 T3 power plant costs 4240 mass and 97600 energy
They generate 10 mass and 1000 energy.

Difference:
(Aeon) SCU resource allocation costs 6% more mass and 39% less energy than the equivalent in mass fabs and power plants

How is it less efficient?

10 T2 massfabs (100m and 4000e each) + a T3 pgen (3240m and 57600e) totals 4240m and 97600E
The scu RAS upgrade giving the same yield costs 4500m and 60000e

That looks to me like a much bigger energy cost more then 150%.
I discard the price of the quantum gateway and SCU itself, because you can use the SCU for other purposes.

Remember you have to build the sACU.

sACU is what, 2k mass? and building a ras preset from scratch is 6450 mass or so, and 95k energy or so?

But for that 2k mass and 25-30k energy you get alot of good things already. an engineering suite, dps, alot more health, less chance for chain reactions, can be stealthed

Edit: to me it just seems SCU is the lower risk, higher reward unit, and that's why i don't really see an incentive to build massfabs when i can build SCU's

You are discarding that massfabs cost 150e per second each to operate, that's why we are talking about a T3pgen.
And when you talk about adjacency, if you want adjacency you have to have the T3 massfab, and i thought the T2 was more efficient, maybe not when surrounded with storages

But you already buy other qualities with that mass. I would pay more for my pgens and massfabs if they could move, damage, regen and have high health! Not to mention that if you spot buildings theyll never dissapear from your radar. and you talk about mass storage adjacency for a massfab but like i said i thought T2 massfabs was the way to go, and that doesn't get adjacency. But i did discard adjeceny when i thought about this, so maybe with that it will be better

T2 mass fab:
Cost: 100 mass
Mass prod: 1
E consumation: 150
T2 mass fab + 1 mass storage (already build, ie next to mexx):
Mass prod: 1.125
T2 mass fab + 2 mass storage (already build):
Mass pro: 1.25
=====> 1 mass production cost : 294 (taking account the price of T3 pgen powering it)
=====> 1 mass production cost : 261 (taking account the price of T3 pgen powering it + 1 mass storage already build)
=====> 1 mass production cost : 235 (taking account the price of T3 pgen powering it + 2 mass storage already build)
T2 mass fab (with adjency to T3 pgen) => 258
aeon scu ras : 1 mass production cost : 586 (I’m not taking account of the e income)
uef scu ras : 1 mass production cost : 600 (I’m not taking account of the e income)
sera scu : 1 mass production cost : 1025 (I’m not taking account of the e income)

aeon scu ras with 15% discount thx to adjency : 1 mass production cost : 498

Fyi :
1 scu ras : 11 mass production.
1 sera scu : 2 mass production. (i would like to bring it to 2.5 to make 1 mass production cost 820)

i would suggest to build mass fab next to safe mexx, and switch to sacu after ward because BP is also really important late game

Actually most people I've seen prefer RASCu's over mass fabs. I'm certainly not a top player but I go for RASCu's as often as possible.
