Nomads Campaign Testing

I found a way of testing nomads with coop, it's a bit hacky but it does the job. It's important for you to read the instructions properly, especially things that are highlighted red.

Nomads mod:

Unpack the archive, inside you find 2 files
  • sc_music.scd - This is half of the nomads mod, renamed so it gets loaded by the init file, as it has a whitelist of things to load and sc_music is on the list.
  • speed2_Coop_Fix - Second half of the nomads that contains things that need to be hooked in game together with other coop fixes that are ready for the next game patch.
sc_music.scd goes into game installation folder:

IMPORTANT!!! AFTER YOU ARE DONE TESTING YOU NEED TO DELETE THIS FILE ELSE YOU WILL KEEP DESYNCING IN OTHER GAMES !!!


speed2_Coop_Fix goes into mods folder

  • NMCA_001
  • NMCA_003
Both go into the map folder:

Play:
  • Make sure you have all files at the right locations
  • Host any mission via Coop tab in the client
  • Once in the game lobby, change the map to one of the Nomads missions.
  • Don't forget to enable the speed2_Coop_Fix mod!
  • Enjoy

Please post replays and feedback so we can improve the missions further.

Other info:
  • Videos are not done yet.
  • Only some voices in the first mission are recorded.
  • Some of the dialogue texts are just placeholders (especially in the 3rd mission)

First mission seems to be broken for some unknown reason. But 3rd one should work just fine.

alternatively you can download the init file from here:
https://github.com/Nomads-Project/Nomad ... nomads.lua
and overwrite your init_coop.lua file in the ProgramData/FAForever/bin folder with it (copy the content in). Then make the file write protected and host a normal coop game.

Note: you need to have hosted a normal nomads game before to download all required nomads game files. Downloading the missions like in speeds post is required as well.


Starting a coop game from the coop tab should then load nomads and the coop mod. Now, you can switch to one of the nomads missions like speed2 described.

If you want to switch back to normal coop, just rename or delete the coop init file in your ProgramData/FAForever/bin folder into something else. The client will download a new file and everything will work as normal. Most importantly this approach wont desync any other games (except coop games if you play with someone without these modifications and forgot to rename/remove the modified init file).

Nice mission. Really thankful that those T3 arties are only objectives, but it would be funny if they did fire at you after a certain time. The lack of Omni and cruisers is kind of annoying but part of the challenge.

Those arties are suppose to be orbital canons that shot down the ship ^^ but since there's unique model for that (yet) I used artilleries, since they look like they could manage that :D So no they won't shoot at the player.

The lack of cruiser is a bit annoying but after several tests I decided I like the intie spam. If nothing it can force one player to do air which has a meaning of actually protecting things. With cruiser the player with naval could do everything as cruisers are strong against T2 air.

I didnt feel the lack of omni in my tests, with couple of well placed T2 radars I managed to get a decent coverage to know what's going on. But I'll think about it and maybe add the omni to the later stage of the mission.

I added mission two as well and enabled the nomads mod first in a regular non-test game.

are the nomads missions showing up? (I can't tell)

I don't know what their actual name is (it would help to say so for those who never typically play coop or have never really played the campaign or memorized the mission names)

are they just NMCA_001, NMCA002 and NMCA_003?

in that case why aren't they showing up in my list? does this only work on the python client?

the list of missions is the one from the server so local files won't show up in it (same for both clients)
you have to open a lobby with any mission and then change the map to the nomads mission for the testing

ok but how are they called???

you have to host it with the coop tab (NOT the regular play tab)
the map name is "Nomads Mission 2 Playable Teaser"

it doesn't work for me.

I host the map NMCA_002 and after having played a game to enable speed's mod and making sure the mod is enabled in the new host but upon joining the map defaults to 4 corners. I can see nomads in the selection menu up top but I can't select it and it doesn't appear in the drop-down list :

and in the in-game maps list the nomads maps don't show up. they only show faf-side.
