I don't get you guys. The core question is whether the Torrent's range is compensation enough for not getting a missile cruiser like seraphim or UEF at T2. The difference in DPS/Mass seems slightly larger then comparing t2 MMLs vs t3 arty and arty has additional advantages over MMLs while it is the other way around with the Torrent and missile cruisers.

I really don't know the answer to that question, but I do know that some of the comments here are needlessly destructive.

Its not a really serious discussion, its just actual experienced senton etc players who actually know how the unit functions at a professional level vs people who really dont even, and need the raw stats to discuss

Not a serious discussion in the slightest. 1k balance god and naval expert Ithilis vs. people who use the unit regularly and are half decent players. In what way did this come even close to being serious?

You completely ignore arguments against your original and tbh, terrible argument, only acknowledge other less informed opinions about a boat they never seen in practice, and when you get pummelled by people who actually know what they are talking about you victimise yourself and say they have to be le edgy ad homina trolls right?

See, this is why you will never see the light of day; You're blind.

Well, I don't think the fact that the unit still has a function and is built by players for that function means it is strong enough in that function. Nuances to that question can go under in actual games because other factors overshadow it (e.g. what difference does it make if the Torrent is slightly inefficient if you already won your pond and navel bombardment means an advantage either way?).

The long Seton's game may also be a scenario overly accentuating the advantages of the Torrent.

If there was no reason why you would use the Torrent over the Silencer or a spam of another factions cruisers, would you not see them spammed out more often?

The Torrent is already one of if not the best platforms for barraging enemy bases, if it was buffed even further it would be blatantly overpowered.

Um ZiniZini wrote:8000 mass same cost as as a battleship, countered by several T2 TMD, not capable of defending itself in a naval battle and the cost again of 8000 mass same as a battleship, the cost is worthy of repeating twice. So to the apparent pro's who might stumble upon this "blashpemy" or moderate truth in whatever sense voice ur answers. when and why is this ship used? I wish to point out again thrice it costs 8000 mass same as a battleship, thats stupid.

As far as I am aware. Balance changes to this unit haven't been put on the table by the original poster. Hence, the entire point of this thread was to answer the question above. Which I have emphasised.

To which I replied with the following answer:
I use them in small numbers to complement my other naval units. Because, it is one more thing my opponent needs to worry about. It is never my primary force component, and there is never a time when I will base my strategy around this one type of ship. I use it to punish opponents who don't build TMD.

The truth of the matter is that you should spend less time talking the Torrent down because of what it can't do - and spend more time appreciating the things which it can do. The Torrent, like most things in the Aeon arsenal, is a highly specialised unit - and it's weaknesses are compensated by having a strong and unique ability - and this ability is squarely aimed at the destruction structures and static units, which are mostly on land.

I also feel that these so called "Seton's Naval Pros" need to get out of that map and experience some real naval gameplay. Try using this on a 40 km island map, such as Point of Reach or Roanoke Abyss, (or an 80 km map like Debris), and you will quickly see it's strengths. With such large distances and island economy everywhere it is simply impossible to get the T2 build power to where it needs to be and make TMD everywhere. This combined with the huge range means that you could park this vessel anywhere on those maps and have somewhere between 5 to 10 mexes within range. This ship can readily change targets, move to different positions and attack on a different vector. It's range circle, when compared to a T2 Sonar or Radar easily puts it at a place where it can attack it's target without being detected. Which is a huge advantage over cruisers that need to get much closer to their targets and stand a much greater likelihood of getting intercepted by enemy destroyers. The torrent can move into position, fire a couple of salvo's and be sailing off into the ocean only to re-emerge and attack a different island. Sniping Mexes, Pgens, Engineer clusters, and Factories.
