Having time to review your strategy

Postby Flynn » 12 Apr 2015, 14:48

One thing that strikes me in SupCom, I was playing Vya-3 Protectorate and I realised not once, not ONCE did I get a chance to just zoom out and look at the map because micro was taking up so much of my time. I couldn't make decisions on anything, couldn't scout often, couldn't just do anything. I wish there could be a solution for the APM problem in SupCom, then it would be even better.

Of course you could zoom out and review your strategy, you just didn't do it. A good way to make the game less hectic is to increase your radar coverage. When you see something coming from far away you have way more time to react to it, so that you actually have time to consider *how* to react to it.

maybe you are doing tons of useless micro too...

i usually do like 30 reclaim order in the begining on this map, then i do none (only for reclaiming middle structure)

since I play zoom out, taking time to look at opponent while my scout are in it doesn't require lot of time neither.

my cpm are around 30-40 in team game, and 40-50 in 1v1. I think you are able to have the same cpm, but most of those action are useless, or not that much important. If you don't have high cpm, then focus on making the more "smart" command. And then you will see that you will have time to look at your opponent base, prepare strategy : find weakness in his army composition, compare your air to his air, look at how much T2 mexx he has.....

Personally I think it's worth it to eschew a little micro in favor of having a clue about what is going on. Being very busy/playing hectically tends to lead to bad decision making anyway so I think it's better to take it slower.
