New Way To Get People to Play Balance Testing

Postby RoundTabler » 10 Jul 2013, 14:53

Hey All,
Rather than (or in addition to) the current rating/games limit, what if you could only suggest balance changes for next balance patch if you had played >10 or 15 games on balance testing during the previous testing period? This would encourage people to play, and would let lower rated players dedicated to balance propose their ideas.

I think the game you want to play is Starcraft 2.

Interesting idea but I doubt it would have the intended effect.

Why? Seems like it should be fairly effective in getting people playing. Maybe it should involve reporting issues too?

I feel like anyone who is paying close enough attention and/or thinking far enough ahead to play balance test mods ahead of time is already going to be playing the balance test mods in the first place.

If you tell people "alright, tell us what do you think should be changed about the game," they'll immediately vomit forth a thousand ideas. If you tell people "play this mod twenty times, and then show us what you think should be changed about the game," they'll say, "hmm... maybe tomorrow."

It would be nice for me though, since I would not have to get my rating up to 1700 first. (Which isn't happening any time soon! :D )

I think as well, that this will not intend more people to play the balance mod. I think if you gain some specials rewards for playing 10,20,30,50 games in balance mode it would help more.

But what I would really appreciate to see, is the rating and games played of each players forum account directly shown on the left side of their post here. In that case everybody would know if he is a noob who is trolling the balance team with some dumb ideas or if he has at least enough games that one can expect he knows what he is talking about.

br,
dis

~1500 global / ~1100 ladder
~1100 games / ~ 400 games

I play a bit of balance testing but there aren't a lot of hosted games running it. Wouldn't feel very confident about making suggestions on balance because I haven't played it enough. I figure as long as the top ranked guys are playing it you'd have a much stronger insight into it than I would.
