To be more precise, I don't like the fact that explosions of units look like some kind of weapon. There is a delay between the death of the unit and the time by which the explosion animation is over, and it's so colourful it looks like a bomb weapon, and it looks as if it would damage all nearby units in a very wide area. When several units are killed at the same time, the battlefield becomes very hard to read, you cannot distinguish AOE weapon fx like arty shots, or bomber drops from units explosions fx that are way bigger and flashier.
I doubt that anyone will rework the explosions, but I guess it's easy to keep the new fx for the weapons and remove the new fx for the explosion of normal units (t1, t2 and t3 land units) and keep them only for advanced units / structures for which it makes sense to go in a big flashy boom (like Experimentals and t3 pgen for instance).
