Because my other current map project (as can be found here) is stuck in a pretty cumbersom, slowly progressing and overall not-fun phase, I started working on a second map - Crimson Feud. I had to give in to an creative urge that the slow pace and overall more technical than creative feeling working progress on the other map could not fulfill.

For this map I chose a much less ambitious approach. I wanted something nice and simple that could be finished in pretty short time. This map has a less complex heightmap and is thus more straight forward in the way it plays. it is also 1/4 of the size of my other map, cutting the working time down significantly.
This map is designed for fast paced, short lived 2v2s with a heated tech 1 phase. There are no fallback spots, once you lost the lead you are very likely to collapse quickly after. This at least was the idea behind this map. Hopefully it will play out just so.


Here is a preview. The map atm got decals and props only on the bottom half.

The spawn area features lots of adjacency bonuses.

There are three wreck fields. A 700 mass one in the middle and 2 1000 mass ones where the lateral mex clusters are. also around 700 reclaim per player in the vicinity of spawn in form of trees and rocks. Do you think there should be more reclaim in the spawn area?

Here is an update. I refined the heightmap a little, mainly to increase the visual appeal. Also I added 1 mass spot on each of the large rock formations. Btw. you can walk onto those without transports from the outer ring level.

Also I slightly increased the overall reclaim . have not tested how much there is now. But I guess a third more than before.

Map is basically finished now and could be uploaded. I still have not got the damn skybox to work though, which keeps me from uploading it.

Here are two more overview shots of the so far finished map... as you can see I added 1 mex per player in spawn area.

Also some data: The map has an overall reclaim of ~8500 mass atm. So about 2125 per player. The size is 5*5km. It got AI support and NR-zones. Special about these is, that the NR-zones of the two allied players partially overlap.

As we could not find a solution to the chosen skybox not displaying I uploaded the map anway now. So, it is available in the vault. If you do play it - feedback and sugegstions for improvement are welcome.

Looks like nobody likes 2v2? Or is there something unfavorable about the map? Would be good to know if so, to not repeat possible design flaws on future maps. I have been hosting the map for about 2 hours across the last few days and only 6 people in total joined. So, if there is something you dislike about the map and makes you not want to play it, please provide feedback. 101 views and only 2 comments makes me really wonder what's the matter.

For me those featureless grey blobs just make the whole map look akin to those cheap and simple maps the vault is flooded with, the ones you and I both hate. Perhaps less grey bubble effect and more craggy rock effect might make the preview more immediately appealing?
