(STEAM) Forged Alliance Map Editor?

Postby MAN~O~WAR » 28 Dec 2013, 23:41

Hello!

I am wondering if it is possible to create maps somehow for Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance alone. I currently have the STEAM version which doesn't include vanilla. I've read on the editor FAQ that I would need it for the editor to work properly, but is there an alternative?

Thanks!

I think vanilla is necessary to run official map editor, the other one will work with FA only but its not suited to editing terrain, you would have to create heightmaps in photoshop or something similar and even then it would be quite sharp.

Yes , you need the first SupCom to run the Official map editor.

The unofficial map editor by hazard works with FA and imho is a better editor (but you have to get used to it crashing after each game launch).

With HazardX editor you HAVE to use photoshop or something similar to create heightmaps, there is just no way to do that in unofficial editor.

Also, I dont think you can create things like wreckages, symetrical props and decals (if you even can place the latter), texturing is also better off left to photoshop.

With official editor you only use PS to mirror heightmaps and texture maps to achieve symetrical maps, the rest you can do in the editor itself.
Official map editor also has a lot better camera control (tilt!).

Yes I would like to try the official editor again but just can't get it to work.

I always generate heightmaps, texturemaps, and normalmaps in other programs so that's not an issue with hazard editor. You can place decals but not sure about wreckages.
