Need some help opening my map in vanilla.

Postby Khellendross » 11 Sep 2013, 02:07

So I've been messing around with the map editor to try and make some nice maps for the community.
So far the tutorial has only done good things for me. But now I've come to a stage where I want to open my map in vanilla first to see if I can at least load it.
However, it doesn't load. I can't see it in the list of selectable maps. I've double checked the tutorial three times and browsed the forum for solutions, but I can't find any.
So is any one of you able to come to my aid?
What am I doing wrong?

(The reason I'm trying to open it in vanilla is purely because I want to see if it works at least. I could move it to FA, but I don't see how that would make a difference).

Forgot to attach the actual map. I'm using the Steam version btw.

I had trouble running my map in vanilla too. Try running it through FAF. Put the map in the FA maps folder.

Also, I don't know if the game reads the files in a case sensitive manner... sometimes you have capital letters in your file names sometimes not.

And you got a malformed construction in your description "which with", just btw... ;)

Can't seem to get it to work in FAF either. It just doesn't seem to appear.

Made the file names so that they all have capital letters now, but I don't think it makes a difference, since the editor saved the map without capital letters, whilst I wrote the name down with capital letters.

I noticed that all the maps I grabbed off FAF don't seem to be in the folder which FAF uses as a game path. Are they saved in a different location?

P.S. Thanks for correcting my crappy late-night grammar.

FAF downloads maps to My Games\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\Maps, but you can also put the map into C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance\maps, just FAF won't know you got that map then...

If I were you I would export the heightmap and texture masks, make a new map and import those again, as you aren't any further than that anyway...

I've put them in the FAF folder and now they appear in FAF lobby. However, they still don't appear inside the game lobby. I can load up the map but I can't start it.
Error message in chat state: "no valid game configuration found".

Also, the player start positions don't seem to appear in the map preview.

There might be a mismatch between the names of the markers, the names in the armies layer or game layer or the _scenario.lua.

That doesn't seem to be the problem, sadly. :(

Fixed.

There was something missing in the scenario file but I don't know what exactly, most likely a . or , .I replaced the file by another and renamed everything needed.

About your map;
You've build your map too deep , it's mostly black which can't be solved ( except by redoing the whole map )
