What do people here use to create heightmaps?Gimp?Photoshop?Something else?

I use GIMP for drawing and all the mirroring stuff. Also I derivate the texture maps from that file.

Dont you make the texture in the map editor?
Is there a way to import a texture image?

Yes , but it'll be placed as a "decal". But how to add custom decals I forgot because it's hard and complicated :D


EDIT: Working on a tutorial on how to add custom delcals and layers ( coming later today )

I'm using the inofficial "Supreme Scenario Editor" in which you can export/import heightmap and texturemap.

You have to create a Texture with a oppacity map stored in the alpha channel and then save the file as a dds with a DXT1 compression if its a RBG image , if its greyscale you should use DXT3. I only know how to add decals to the offical editor though.

It should be a size with the power of two. Like 128 256 512 etc.. Keep in mind each time you double the resolution you quadruble the size of the file.
