How to load a default FA map into the editor?[SOLVED]

Postby CopyyyCattt » 11 Jul 2013, 22:37

I took the seton's clutch folder from the FA map folder. scmp009...
Renamed the folder to "setons".
Renamed the scmp_009 parts of the names in the 4 files inside the folder to "setons".
Renamed all instances of scmp_009 inside the scenario file to "setons".
moved the folder into the maps folder of supcom vanilla.
tried to load into the map editor.Did not work.
What do??

p.s.
Made sure all 4 files were read only before loading the map into the editor.

What happened when you tried to load the copied over Setons map?

If you download, say any map from the FAF map vault and copy that into your SupCom Vanilla map folder, does it load it?

Also, you may want to copy your FA version of editor.scd (located in \Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance\gamedata) and copy that into your SupCom Vanilla gamedata folder.

Yes, maps from the vault open.
I copied that file and its still crashing.
The editor opens up i try to open the map and it just disappears from the screen and crashes.

I think this is an issue of opening FA maps, specifically the *.scmap file. No matter what official FA map you copy into the SupCom Vanilla map folder to try to open with the editor it will crash. Even if the map was present in Vanilla; delete the Vanilla version, and copy over the FA version, it will crash.

The only way I got it working was doing the following:

- Made a copy of the FA version of Setons and renamed it setons test.
- Renamed all the files in the folder from SCMP_009*.* to setons test_*.*
- Copied the folder setons test to the SupCom Vanilla Folder.
- Opened up setons test_scenario.lua and made the following changes under ScenarioInfo = {
from

Code: Select all
    map = '/maps/SCMP_009/SCMP_009.scmap',
    save = '/maps/SCMP_009/SCMP_009_save.lua',
    script = '/maps/SCMP_009/SCMP_009_script.lua',

to

Code: Select all
    map = '/maps/SCMP_009/SCMP_009.scmap',
    save = '/maps/setons test/setons test_save.lua',
    script = '/maps/setons test/setons test_script.lua',

So what it is doing is using the SupCom Vanilla map file, but using the features in the FA version such as how the reclaimable mass in the middle no longer has a Fatboy and Monkeylord (as was present in the Vanilla version).

Perhaps the FA maps are encrypted. Maybe Hazard X Scenario Editor (or whatever it is called) can open those files to at least grab the terrain? No idea.

Well, first of all, thanks for the effort and for figuring this out.
So the map used is the vanilla one but the features are the FA ones..What about mass spots? are they the vanilla ones or the FA ones?

I believe that the terrain, decals, textures, reclaimable rocks / trees, and whatever makes the map look good is using the SupCom Vanilla version.

All the other items such as AI markers, mass spots, hydro spots, reclaimables from dead units, civilian locations, start locations and things like that is using the FA version.
