Catch 22 uploading map error

So...My problem is as follows

I have a map titled "survival_mayhem&bo_3d_rpg"
For the first 30 iterations of it, the new versions got uploaded no problem.
Then, a few months ago, Downlords gave me an error that the & symbol is not allowed
I said YOLO and just changed the & for a _, so the title (and the values inside the scenario file all stated "survival_mayhem_bo_3d_rpg" with an _ instead of &

AND IT WORKED...for some 5 next versions of that map. It was the same version map (there are no 2 versions of it in the Vault, the _ and the & versions).

HOWEVER! now when i tried to do the exact same thing and upgrade v35 to v36, I get the following error:

Map could not be uploaded. Server gave the following errors: The scenario.lua has to contain the following line: map = '/maps/survival_mayhem&bo_3d_rpg/survival_mayhem&bo_3d_rpg.scmap' The scenario.lua has to contain the following line: save = '/maps/survival_mayhem&bo_3d_rpg/survival_mayhem&bo_3d_rpg_save.lua' The scenario.lua has to contain the following line: script = '/maps/survival_mayhem&bo_3d_rpg/survival_mayhem&bo_3d_rpg_script.lua


Ofc, uploading it as the original again produces the same error that the symbol is not allowed.

TL:DR
The client insists the original name must be obeyed (containing a & symbol), yet if I upload it as such it gives me an error that the symbol is not allowed and must be without it. So as you can see...I am fucked.

I'd much rather not wish to upload a secondary version of that map, there are enough duplicates and obsolete versions already.
But I will be forced to, if no one figures a solution to this (and we will have multiple instances of same map :/

To get some help on what the server allows, you can use this tool: https://api.faforever.com/maps/validate
It will tell you how to name the other files based on your map name.
We changed the ruleset a few times because of several issues we had. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I know all this. The server insists my map is called with a "&", yet when iI upload it with that symbol it tells me the symbol is not allowed.

"Map could not be uploaded. Server gave the following errors: Only latin characters, numbers, blanks and the minus are allowed"

When I try and upload like it asks me to, with the original name with &

The same does not occur when i test the files in the validation tool - gives me all green there :/

also, why are mods not affected?? I have an accompanying mod for that map, almost the same name and it contains a "&" in it - zero problems there.
So are symbols such as & allowed or not?

@brutus5000 take another look. This problem isnot about how to name a map. It's about the server requesting thename of the map to equal the old one which isn"t named correctly, there's no way to resolve this user sided. I don't have any idea hoe tp fix that quickly though without breaking existing map versions.

honestly, I'd be fine with uploading a new named version while the old ones get deleted for being obsolete (since it's a very complex survival, old versions are incompatible with the mod needed to run it anyways, it would just give people errors and a broken map script if they use the old versions)

Hi DDDX,

reuploading under a new name is simplest solution. We can hide the other map versions (they are still available for download in replays but they disappear from the vault).
IF you confirm, I would hide the following ones:
- Survival_Mayhem&BO_3D_v1
- Survival_Mayhem&BO_3D_RPG

excellent.
Please only remove the _RPG version, I have suplemented it with a new one called "DDDX_RPG_survival".

The _v1 version lets people play without the accompanying "Survival mayhem&BO balance" mod if they so chose, or with it (map script is adapted accordingly).
I am big on letting people live their life how they want and play how they wish, that's why 2 versions :)
