Easy way to make ramps

Postby mr_blastman » 16 Sep 2018, 23:36

Is there an easy way to make ramps on a map? Nice, smooth, consistent ramps. I'm using the beta/alpha whatever editor, and don't see a way to do it, not easily at least, and what I'd like to do is smooth out some ramps on Nightmare Pass (version of the Pass) so the top bluffs are accessible via ground vehicles from the bottom areas.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi, mr_blastman, there certainly is and I would be happy to help show you. It is a bit much to describe in text, but using a combination of "brush types" in the ozonex FaF editor will help. In general, you will want to create a difference in height; then, use the "flatten brush" which averages out the two as you paint over; finally, you will use the "blur" tool to create a smooth transition.

BorgCubeJanitor has a text and image, showing the process. I would recommend joining the Maps & Mods discord channel [https://discord.gg/yNtZhr]

If possible I try to pre-build the ramps in photoshop heightmap.
Open the heightmap.
Select the grey at the ground level and the plateau for your color/Gradient ramp.
Select the ramp location and draw with the Gradient tool the ramp.
Save and Import. Now you can Blur if you want to :)

tbh if someone is trained with visual editing software, then its easy to layout and mirror/duplicate a good looking height map
so its an alternative for sure :*
