Hm i wasnt very clear there.
By map frame i mean mountains at map borders like on Goodlands, Darkfall, Broken Vow etc. It feels like playable area was brutally shoved into a square. The frame has no terrain and crazy elevation that both do not fit imo. Zlo has a good point about limiting area for map balance purposes but im not talking about that at all. My concern is mostly aesthetics, some really good examples are EOTS, Last Oasis, Pizza. It feels like part of the map there, and is really cool and natural.

So, basically you are okay with the idea so long as the aesthetics are of good quality? I agree it can't just be some wonky job so I concur with you here, Moza

Hmm. Well, without altering the map much I'd say here in the bottom left corner would be good.

expansions, and mid are about the same distance as with the default spots, hydro there is raidable but can be secured. I don't know where mexes should go (and some might need to be moved around).

I have recently seen a player complaining about "off map abuse" on isis. when his opponent's strats were naturally flying offmap. that is the thing i care more about rather than aesthetics, i have had a game where couple of my strats stuck offmap and i could not bring them back

Hey, so i released the open waters remake today, named Unbarred.

I tried to use a low reclaim count, and compensated with more mexes. It's probably less then the mex count in the original open waters, but a lot of them are underwater.
The map is also good for 2v2, try both, i want to see what you think!

Playing on low fidelity only gives one green grass texture all around, nothing else so seeing beaches and cliffs is really, really hard.

Turning fidelity to medium loads the right textures so I'm guessing there's a texture palette for different fidelity settings hidden somewhere in the map files. *shrugs*
