Finally got around to learning a bit more about GW and I had a thought. How cool would it be if we were to introduce some more faction diversity to the game via Superweapons?
OK so basically, each faction would have a certain innate ability which would help their cause. It's not something any one player controls, but something to help the whole faction's efforts. Perhaps they could be on an eternal charging loop. At 100% the highest ranked player online at the time, or maybe just whoever is available, or via a vote I don't know, gets to fire the Superweapon.
For example:
Cybran - Gate Network Disrupter - Target this at a planet-planet link to remove the link entirely. This can be used strategically to cut planets off from backup or influence, and change the dynamics of the galaxy.
Aeon - The Princess - The princess visits a friendly planet causing it to instantly increase to 100%, and causing all adjacent planets to experience a rapid shift to Aeon loyalty as they are gripped by religious fervour.
Seraphim - Quantum Disturbance Generator - Target this at an area of space to generate a singularity. It would act as an un-attackable planet of 100% Seraphim influence and allow direct attacks into deep space regions well behind enemy lines.
UEF - Black Sun - Target Black Sun at any planet to erase all influence from that planet instantly. After targeting, it takes some time to fire. If there is a game in progress on that planet a warning sounds 'Black Sun targeting signature detected: Red Alert'. Any UEF player(s) on the map are instantly recalled (They had warning of the attack), and all other players are advised to recall ASAP. Any commander caught on-planet when Black Sun fires is instantly killed.
These are just the first ideas I could come up with (Yes, Black Sun was the inspiration)
