You can add more connections. i.e.

But not too many, i think its the opposite, if you have connections everywhere, the gameplay gets boring, because you can just atack everywhere.

What i find important for the look is that there is more space between (also needed) planet groups, that they arent split so symetricly over the map.

I also like very much in that picture that the territory is not cut off at the borders, but going into the space. And that its no rectangle but "random shape". :)

If there is time for it some day, i'd like to see something in this direction beeing tried out.

This is really awsome and realistic!
Very nice idea!

I like the 1st one, if you can manually add more connections.

I would like to see the middle populated with more planets and connections. Right now it just looks like a perfect empty circle. It would be nice to have a center cluster that offered a nice strategic position.

Another thought would be to implement a gateway concept. You could have a massive connection that connects two planets very far away. Would allow for some variation, and additional map strategy.

I like what zock did. I was thinking something like that. If we can ensure each group of planet have 2 to 4 point of entry... If a group a of planet have just 2 point entry (like south america in risk) the pay off will be little but if they have a lot (like asia in risk) the reward will be great. Each group could be like the continent in risk...

A try at generating galaxies with groups of planets with different amounts of spirals:

In the upper right corner if the images is a function to view them at fullsize.

I'd place connections within the systems and 2 or 3 connection to each system with a few connections between the arms. However the connections between the arms should not all be at the end as in pilots first image.

EDIT:
Another Version with more randomness to satisfy Zock's need for holes:

The center area has 50 planets more than the current alpha map.

Looks great. But will the connections be as dominant in the FAF-Client as in the screenshots? The lines are so thick that the planets are barely visible.
Apart from that I like it.
