Was just about to start filling up some names in here and it occured to me that we might struggle to get the ammount of names we need from this.

What are the chances of pulling off some kind of data base from a name generator?

Failing that it would be quite easy to go to baby name gens and stuff and pull off vast quantities of the right kind of sounding names for the regions or lists of regions ser names.

i did some pattern detection with the existing seraphim units and campain names
i think i can create a full automatic namegenerator without an existing database just from letter compositions

Name would be:

Prefix (3-5 letters)
Iya (double vokal)
Thet (th)
Zan (double consonant)
Genth (double consonant + th)
Imoth (double vokal + th)

+ Name
Aishahesh
Uuthow
Eoshi
didnt think about prameters here yet

so what d you think?

For UEF : Maybe not the best idea but assuming that the two parts of the names will be mixed, it can't be a problem (there was some female names too but I assume that uef is sexist ^^) :

Don't worry with the generator itself, I have a pretty good markov chain algo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markov_chain / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markov_cha ... generators) working, I just need to feed it some data.

I don't understand why the need for this name generator. Could we not just simply choose our own names? Or do you just want to ensure that everyone has an appropriate "faction-specific" sounding name? Will we get to choose the name from a list of available names, or would it just be a random assignment?

You really thing people will enter names that fit the lore correctly, and not any name or another nickname ?

Because yes, there is a big role-playing part in GW, and it need fit the existing lore.

When writing fan fiction for Supreme Commander, I used to pick up my Cybran "computery" names from this list:

Both lists were very useful and served as an inner joke that only I understood, lol
