In all honesty, the Nomads have no official canon. I'm pretty sure the original team pretty much had them going on a killing spree for imprisoning them several THOUSAND years in the past (and bear in mind, they were extremely dangerous convicts being shipped to a high security prison several tens of light years from the Earth Empire). They managed to escape the ship that was carrying them, took over the military escort ship and somehow liberated an entire prison world - with ONE military ship. While awesome, this sounds very... Rambo-ey.
The way I see them, they are space pirate-adventurers. They don't play much of a role in the Infinite War, but I'm pretty sure we have it written down somewhere that they bro up with humanity in the Seraphim War.
As for the symbol... The most fitting word would be 'TROLL', but that doesn't sound very epic. What did the vikings do? Loot... Pillage... Invade... Yeah, the Nomads would have had a ball with Avatar Marxon. They would have thrown commanders at one another until the sun went down. 'JUSTICE' may be good, as it represents the Nomads' twisted view of revenge, as well as their general lawlessness and vigilante nature,
