i'm not a photoshop expert but this can more easily be turned into what you want?

the problem is that i cant make the background really transparent, gimp is not suited for fancy masking stuff, neither is vegas

Yes gimp can do that very easily actually. They looked washed out without a background.

The second one comes out horribly pixelated sadly (lots of jpeg artifacts in the original), the first ones alright. Both could really use a higher quality starting image.
