Anonymous playing

Would like to suggest the ability to play anonymously (hidden name+country), seems like a few people would like it and would help reduce smurfing.

Anonymity in both would work I think, perhaps easiest in 1v1 ladder since it avoids balancing issues.

I think a move towards everyone anonymous and no ratings shown in ladder would be a positive in any event. Being able to see who you are playing is a kind of free intel.

You need to keep rating show for team game though. But i feel like it's better to just keep it for 1v1, since you don't want to play against some player in team game (because you know that they lag, or don't like their attitude, or their game play style (as ally))

how i imagine this:
- option to play anonymously in the login screen of FAF (not the lobby, but where you can also tick in 'automatic login' etc)
- in anonymous mode, the player can choose another name each time he logs in (must not be taken by another player/anonymousMode at that time ofc)
- rating, avatar, country flag, scout/t1/t2/t3/t4 icon are hidden in lobby and in the game, though global rating should be displayed in the custom lobbies for balance purpose
- the matchmaking functions (autobalance in lobby, 1v1 ladder) should still use rating, and rated games still affect the hidden rating
- friend/foe list does not work for anonymous players


i'd really love this for multiple reasons (less stalkers, not having the need to live up to expectations, can do random stuff for fun, not giving away free intel (just by playername, knowing player patterns)) and imo it would reduce the amount of smurf characters, because the only reason left to have one would be to bash lower rated players

Naturally, mods would still have the ability to identify someone if there was misbehaviour.

it would be great to keep a rating for ladder.

at least to know if your opponent has higher or lower rating. So you know what kind of person you are facing. (a rounded rating for anonymous for exemple)

On reflection, I'm not sure if its a great idea for custom games, perhaps the host should have an option to allow/disallow anonymous players from joining (similar to observers option)
