VM the comeback ?

Postby -_V_- » 22 Mar 2015, 21:06

Now that Zep is no longer in charge, could we reestablish the possibility to use VMs ? Simply allow it for replays watching and not for a "live" game.

Using the UniqueID dll has proven ineffective at smurf detection anyway, so I'm not against this. We should have this in the suggestions forum where it belongs, though.

I'm quite sure you can already use a VM if your account is linked to steam. Same for linux.

Removing the UID would lead to chaos. When FAF didn't have any UID, most people had at least 3 accounts, some a dozen.
Removing the UID but keeping the steamlink is the way to go, but a lot of people won't want it. So they have to deal with the restrictions that come with it (no VM or linux is one).

Not gonna go in that debate.

Before you were in charge, fair enough topic was closed. Now you're not, unless I'm mistaken. So I expect less uptightness from the new management.

Again I requested for at least to be able to replay games. => so not sure how this is related to smurfing, supposedly leadin to chaos.
But even if people are still playing their prima donna about smurfs, well wtv, forbid the "live" playing form VM => no smurf can play games. No issue

No need for an endless sterile "debate". And no need to try to create a problem where there's none.
You clearly have your own set-in-stone opinion on this, others luckily don't.

You can, right now, replay games (or livereplays) in a VM. Just launch FAF in a command line with the link to the replay/livereplay you want to see. Or link your account to steam, and you will be able to connect from a VM too.

There is no problem with smurfing because I did something about it. Reverting that would be dramatic. But well, the new management can try to remove the protection (it's a single line to change in the server) if they don't believe me, I wish them good luck with moderation, cash-priced tournaments & complains about noob bashing.
