Maybe we can just find a more polite way of calling someone Newb/Noob...
I had originally titled that class "Newb"

_____
EDIT

Maybe the first class can be called "New/Casual Players" XD

I like it, don't really mind where the divisions are or what they're called. I'm in favour of less-obvious rating, it makes people risk averse and more likely to rage about losing (either at snipes/cheesey play or failing team mates) because they lose e-peen. It also makes people less willing to risk their rating and play unrated even when they are playing competitively (I admit I do it sometimes, mostly when I think I'm not feeling good but play anyway). The obvious, biggest thing though, is that 0-rateds will get more games.

But it sucks to balance games without rating, so I like the idea of having divisions that are related to your rating (the current ones are heavily influenced by how much you spam ladder, and nothing to do with custom play where rating actually has a use beyond mindgames). So this idea's good, to smurf/rating tanking-proof it a little I'd suggest leaving people in their highest-achieved rating group once the system "knows them" - ie their standard deviation for the rating formula is low enough.

There's a number of things I'd like to say about standard deviations and what rating should be affected by what games but I don't want to derail a good idea :)

To me it's some kind of arrogance if you put all under 1000 in one group. even the difference between like 700-1000 is sometimes enorm - not even talking about lower people. And: What the hell is the point of that? The rating system seems fine to me. I dunno what happened to cause this suggestion, i guess some random idiot left a gamelobby/kicked somebody from gamelobby because of his personal rating fetish, yet the inability to think of some, is no reason to castrate the majority instead of telling them to use condoms...
