A "Strategy and tactics" forum

Postby Flynn » 13 Jan 2015, 19:33

Hi, currently, all strategy and tactics posts go in the "Help me I'm a newbie" section, which is not appropriate for those who have played perhaps 500+ games. So I propose a separate strategy and tactics forum and have the newbie section purely dedicated to helping newbies.

I don't think there are enough posts in the help forum as it is to warrant splitting off another segment of it... If we had a constant influx of new players chatting constantly in it as they ask about basic game mechanics sure, but we don't. If your issue is solely with the name, what Aulex said.

This is true, but maybe reorganisation of the help forum is better.
Separate sections for general strategy and advice and a new players help section may help, and also remove many clutter posts from gen. discussions.

I agree with this completely... I have questions about more "advanced tactics" that can't be summed up by "eco right" or "learn to micro..." which I'm already pretty good at.

My current quest has been -- how to beat ravager creep on small maps? It seems like t2 static arty is the only way to go since they are the only thing that outranges it. But you have to start early and they are more expensive than ravagers, so it ultimately seems like a losing tactic. Assume they are smart enough to build flak. Is TML the only counter that's less expensive?

To answer, t3 mobile arty is the way to go, and perhaps usage of tml launchers.
Spearheads are good too.

Generally the best way to stop things from happening is to scout them before they're finished and build the appropriate counter.
See uef upgrading t3 on com? That's when you need to react, not when you start getting hit by t3pd.

Huh, I could've sworn t3 mobile had a shorter range than ravagers...

The first time it happened to me, I had scouted it, I just didn't know what to do. Helpful. Thanks.

t3 mobile arty has 90 range, t3 pd has 70 , spearheads have 80.

Yea, I had looked that up, thanks for posting it though. :)

Okay, next question: How to beat floaty factions as non-floaty ones? Specifically, how to beat aeon as cybran on Balvary Mountains 4b?

I choose cybran specifically because their hover tank sucks. Can't shoot hover units and 3 dps to naval units. Great for surprise attacks, sure, but beyond that.... I know Cybran t2 navy rocks the boat (ha) but how do you even get to t2 against an aggressive aeon player? If they kite correctly, theoretically you'll never get an engie in the water.
