Force Map Selection in Ladder

Postby Ceneraii » 10 Jan 2015, 21:37

Simple enough, force people to select at least 10-15 maps before they can play ladder, this should improve the map result a bit, and can possibly generate useful data (like least/most selected maps, etc) for use in the endless discussions about what maps should be in pool. I feel it's very necessary as a first step.

I dont think it would work for new players who dont know any of the custom maps. otherwise I am not against this

I disagree because this will alert them that this function exists and thus prevent them from playing with the full range of maps which would only make it even harder for them to learn.

I played a for a long time with no maps selected, because I didn't know what maps to chose. There is no information available about the maps, like size.

This - until you play the maps you can't really judge them, forcing new players to pick maps will just mean they pick randomly. If detailed information was provided with each map this might be more possible, but honestly its better we just make sure every map is a good map to begin with so that we don't care what other people pick or don't pick.

I don't like selecting a map because i'm ok with playing on anything, provides an interesting challenge even if I don't know the map.

I agree with the rebuttals. You don't get people to play by forcing them to do something they don't want to do.

Also no selected maps is a perfectly viable choice : You will have more chances to have a most selected map that way.
That is not similar to selecting all maps, that will make you play the opponent selection all the time.
