I've studied some unit blueprints, and it looks like factories upgrade slightly differently in that they receive a bonus to construction costs based on the previous unit's cost. This is expected, since they can also be built directly by engineers, compared to buildings like hives or cybran shield gens, which are only accessible as upgrades. In the latter category, only the upgrades' costs are reflected in the unit blueprints. Wreckage seems to be determined by a simple factor (usually .9, in case of mass, and 0, for energy) of construction costs, meaning that, I SUSPECT, the wreckage does not reflect the cumulative mass invested in the unit, just the last upgrade. Cybrans reclaiming their wrecked bases are at a disadvantage, IF that is the case.
