utf-8 support for ingame chats

So, the in game lobby seems to support utf-8, at least the automatic messages are in another language's char set sometimes, if the host has his game installed in say Russian for example... But when you try to input non - I guess - ISO 8859-1 or some other ASCII 8 symbols, you get invisible characters...

Why can the game itself write what seems to be utf-8 encoded strings but does not allow the user to input such?

And can we fix this so we can type Russian and other languages properly?

It works for custom names for units, too. I'll make an issue for this and take a look at it if noone else does when we're done with new-patcher :)

Hmm, I can write utf8 in lobby chat / game chat. What situation are we talking about here?

You can? Weird.

Well, I can only report from my experience, but when I switch my keyboard's language and try to type inagme I get only invisible chars.

But I don't know what windows does internally when switching the keyboard language. Does it simply change the mapping of keyboard keys to code points while keeping the same encoding (utf-8 say), or does it switch to that respective language's native encoding entirely?
