Max rating of ladder opponent for new players

I (ladder rating ~1250) got matched up against a new, 0 rated player. No problem for me, but for him/her it probably is. I'm afraid that that kind of rating difference is intimidating for new players and might scare them off. I understand that the system needs to learn the rating of new players in the first 5 games, but I think that it would be better if the cutoff would be lowered. Maybe max 700?
