[Idea]Exp. Tempest Building Balance

...but I don't think it was ever really discussed at length.

The idea would be to normalize the Aeon Exp. Battleship with the other exp factories by allowing it to build T3 ships.
This addresses:
-making all exp. factories consistent, being able to build all techs
-making the Tempest more useful, as it feels a bit underpowered in some circumstances
-making the Aeon T3 navy more viable, as, for example, on Seton's clutch, navy players almost never pick Aeon

To make this change both the .bp and the .lua file for the Tempest would need to be modified. But that is trivial. The hard part is balancing it!

What do you think?

I'm not totally sure, but it seems that the tempest gets built in lots of Seton's matches these days. I got that impression from casts and some replays I watched when bored, so might not be the best info. If that's indeed the case then if you want to make Aeon navy better I think you should look at other units.

Also, maybe a Tempest has physical troubles to construct a battleship or an aircraft carrier due to the factory pad size, but that should be tested. Air craft carriers don't have some units for a reason, because some of them would be quite abusable (ie. bring aircraft carrier close, release mercies).

How would you do this aesthetically? T3 Aeon ships, when under construction, form in a gigantic blob of white stuff. Would the Tempest drag this around or would the ship be contrcuted internally? That would look like a chimpazee giving birth to a whale.

I dunno if times have changed but when I last played pro level Sentons, a lot of people liked to pick Aeon because of hovercrap + tempest

aeon carrier is a little weird in that regard you practially cannot build anything offensive (t1 bombers,gunships) except restorer.


the change you propose wouldnt change much building t3 with a tempest takes way to long for it to be effective in combat it would only be convenient to make some missile ships but i doubt it would be used much

I still think a more useful change to the Tempest would be to allow it to build Aeon hover units as well as Naval. What ever happened to that idea? It seems especially appropriate if the current meta involves hoverspam+tempest.

From this thread, had the same idea, and made the mod, which can now be downloaded here.

As for TMD, it can build cruisers (so mobile TMD) as well as all tech level engineers (so static TMD) :D

There's currently a balance period, so, anything goes ^^

I don't see this as a major change to balance, as it's really a niche thing, where you have a tempest that's for some reason unable to attack at the moment (Very unlikely, given the range). Most people don't use exps to build; they use them offensively, so it won't change much in the way of playstyle.

I say just go ahead and submit a PR, as long as it doesn't look stupid. Maybe hoverunits would fit better if it does.
