Sera acu range

Postby Aulex » 03 Jun 2014, 23:31

At the request of brink and com I decided to post this.

I noticed today that the sera acu has a minimum range of 2 while the other acus have a minimum range of 1, this seemed very odd, so I tested it and it seems that even though the other acus can attempt to target the unit between 1-2 range it cannot fully target it, instead moving back and forth, a twitching motion which we sometimes see when an acu tries to build something really close to it. I'm just interested maybe we can just increase minimum range for other acus or possibly decrease by 1 for sera. All of this was tested with aeon scout so the twitching may be a result of the height of the scout, but i haven't really tested much because this is purely for archiving purposes until next balance patch occurs.

I got a .62% difference.

But still, it's something to fix seeing as it's clearly not intended.

So I was thinking about this, and perhaps the range is due to the Seraphim’s long weapon. If a unit gets to close perhaps the gun would never be able to shoot, or perhaps worse; the ACU will not move back to move out of minimum distance.

So I did a quick little screenshot with all the ACU’s in a firing line all with their arms upgraded. Then did a quick distance from about their center of their torso to where the muzzle effect is.

The numbers represent the distance from the center of the torso to the barrel muzzle.
Aeon: 69 pix
UEF: 90 pix
Seraphim: 114 pix
Cybran: 85 pix

From the picture you can see where the muzzle actually is, for instance the UEF ACU commander does not shoot out of the long barrel (as we see in the movie). Instead it shoots out of the same muzzle from before the upgrade.

Also to put it into perspective, the thickness of a wall segment (measuring vertically) is about 107 pix.
