Remove GEOIP flags from FAF

I just downloaded FAF on sunday, and I've only played ~20 games since then, and I've already seen enough instances of national stereotyping and racism to make me sick. I know these people should be punished, but why give them the tool to do so in the first place? Knowing what country a player is from is completely irrelevant. National origin is hardly indicative of ping, especially in Europe where countries are so tightly packed. And even in North American, a player from USA or Canada will be indistinguishable by ping. Not that it even matters, because ping is shown in the lobby, so if you want to kick high-pingers, you can just, you know... Look at the ping?

I can't see any need for national flags in FAF, nor can I see any downside to removing it them. On the other, I see vast benefits in removing national stereotyping in the community. The only thing I can see is that people might simply be curious, but if it that's important to you, just ask.

I'm from australia and there are lots of games where australians are banned due to pings. I still manage to find games though, doesnt bother me that much.

I kind of like knowing that I'm playing against different nationalities. No, it's not important, but it does add a richness to the game culture.

I am located in the USA. I've seen a ton of USA bashing, it's almost funny. I've also seen german and even brit bashing.

My advice to you would be to #1 stay out of political discussions and #2 perhaps grow a little thicker skin.

I agree that there is a lot of USA bashing (I am a resident as well ) but just don't let it bother you. There is a reason political cartoons do so well..... There is something to joke about in every country and creed on the planet.

That said, FAF does not tolerate racism or explicit haggling of players. If someone is specifically abusing you in PM or in game, screenshot it and forward the picture to us at the admin group here on the forum. If you see things getting out of hand in the main chat, try pinging one of the white names at the top to get the attention of a moderator.

The German and Brit bashing was not bashing at all, it was explaining that the game wasn't stacked since we had no germans on our (mostly British) team xD

I never said I was particularly upset by it. I also was not engaging in political discussions, either, I see bashing just in the course of normal chat and even ingame. Even though I'm not exactly crying myself to sleep at night over it, it's still a big issue and something that's basically encouraged by forcing everybody to be labeled by country.

I think it helps... when in lobby you have a french guy on your team you have the chance to ask him, wheter he speaks englishe before the game starts...


All jokes aside, I think players should have the option to switch off displaiyng their own flag.

just gonna chip in here.

I am getting pretty sick of getting kicked from games because the host sees a aus/nz flag. I am on 100mb fibre, 400 ping is fine in faf if the connection isn't bottlenecked, but no, no discussion, just a "you have been kicked" window.

I don't lag, and the flags in the lobby are a bad thing for me. just so you know.

For me, i look the ping/cpu, not the flag for kick lag player.

Must stop to remove the feature when there is a crying !

The problem is not the flag, but the person who kick you !
