ingame ui improvement idea

Postby laPPen » 27 Nov 2013, 14:10

It would be nice and helpfull if there were more unit stats displayed when you select a unit or want to build one from a factory( is it called tooltip?).
For example it would be nice to have the dps displayed for fighting units or the buildpower for factories/ engeneers.
I think this would help especially newer players to get an overview how and when certain units should be used.

A tooltip showing which units it counters and by which it's hard countered.
counters
is countered

Titan:
all t1/t2 Land units
T3 Armored Assault Bot (Brick, Percival)

Aurora:
T1 Bombers / T1 Arty

Aeon T2 PD:
T2-T3 Tanks and Bots / other PD
Mobile Missile Launcher / mobile T3 Arty

Cybran T2 PD:
T1 land units
Mobile Missile Launcher / mobile T3 Arty / T3 Tanks and Bots

really interesting are other units, for which the counter isn't so obvious.

Perhaps a matrix or list as pdf showing which units counter each other, would be also useful. You can print that.

There is already a mod for this called WeaponInfo

the great thing about supcom is that the entire game is a SIMULATION.
you can counter almost everything with almost everything else.

example: t2 mobile artillery
counter: t1 tanks, t2 tanks, t3 tanks, t2 stationary artillery, t3 mobile artillery, t2 shields, t3 shields, moving t1 artillery, t1 scouts, almost everything experimental, commanders, bombers, gunships, t3 pd, moving ships or t3 ships, nukes from submarines or stationary installations (only when the t2 artillery does not move), ....(and the list goes on).

which counter would you write in the little tooltip?
and why would you NOT write another counter in the tooltip?

some counters are more mass efficient than others. I'm also not sure how artillery is being countered by shields.

The problem with writing out counters is that it can be faction dependent. Unless you want to write out the list of all the different factions' counters, you'd somehow have to make the UI mod faction-sensitive.

A better idea would be that someone make some challenge maps like starcraft 2 so people learn these things in a fun way.
