Maps more like other planets

Postby Neojacques » 03 Jun 2013, 02:37

Suggestion:

You can load external factors on the maps?
_ Falls random meteor;
_ Acid rain that damages where the robots fall (only little hp);
_ Tsunamis random;
_ Cyclone random;
_ Volcanic eruption hurling stones and lava;
_ Lava eruptions flood certain areas for some time as we see in Starcraft2. :shock:

Anyway, game is already very good and very advanced in balancing and bug fixes. But I saw no improvement over external factors on the maps, which have much popping is remake of old maps with option of more players like Isis 3x3 among others. I've seen that this is possible and in some maps in a very subtle almost invisible.

for example
In the old TA when you played a map from another planet had real feeling of being on another planet the same graph that era, imagination was bigger.

In the current FA we have little insight into what we are maps of other planets, because the maps are detailed and not just external factors have on them, the first pictures were not so much more has changed.

Now playing new FX see again that it is possible to give more life alien to the maps, putting gives much or creating maps more realistic. In the map below we see clouds, it's a start, hopefully improve even more maps and have more animations in the future...

Would be possible that these units are not being passed command of Commander units for Civilians.
With so we would have more choice, and make more sense that the robots stay hostile to allies and enemies and Civilians appear more in the game, just as an option and not a rule ...[/b][/i] :mrgreen:

that would be 100% silly and deny every teamplay that involves mixed armys and defences

get a mapscript, make new FX, make a mod, include that, profit, all possible but nobody will spend time on that

I feel like if the supcom engine supported weather, we'd have it by now.

SupCom engine supports creativity i see no reason why rain shouldnt be possible to be made work like some fake units, better question is what this would do with the performance

however, you have to change you idea of "if it is possible it can be done"
most of the people here work already or simply have better things to do than programming complex mods that nobody will use

Edited. Yes I know you have many people working on this game, the majority are new units, balances and other types of mods, but few people work or graphic maps, we now have a new FX and I believe it will improve ... :D

NO

When I wan't to gate onto an alien planet, I want to see something like this...

or this...

Most of the titlesets seem pretty typical, and almost earth like. There doesn't seem to be enough variation. But the best way to implement this is with colours, textures, and lighting. Weather patterns that impact on the game mechanics are not a good idea IMO.

The mistake you are making is thinking that alien worlds will look different form earth.

The source files actually support Things like Rain and even Snow.
Its a bit tricky to get it working and looking nice while fitting the entire map without having a shitload of impenetrable clouds all over the places.

I was working on that a while ago and got some nice Snow and Rain effects - infact it only where visible effects. I should have this stuff somewhere (I did that for a map, but especially as I never had a good idea for the layout, I somehow dropped the coin on that).

It would make things easyer if we could edit some files in one of the .scd archives (which actually should be doable - I hope?). I think multiple particles falling from the sky should be doable. Not sure if we get some lightning done. I think I'll take another look upon this :)

Edit: I found an old screenshot I made for light snow with thin clouds. (yes, it dont fit the map type, but hey, it gives a good contrast)

actually now that you say it: there is a map called "Winter Planet FA" which has some nice cloud/snwo/storm whatever it is exactly effects

aaand i just found that there are textures that do really look like floating lava

i think there was something about lightning before and somebody said that it would be difficult to have more than one lightsource (or impossible i dont remember anymore)
multiple lightsources would be cool when for example shots enlight then ground or units enlight dark maps like Vagra Pass

theres this one map i dont know how it excaclty was called. something with city.
it was a high textured and high detail city and i really felt like in the fa trailer.
its maybe not an alien planet but imo a good example for very good mapping and the possibilities for the map editor
