Spoiler warning for replays?

Postby Tango_X » 27 Mar 2013, 12:53

Don't know if it has been suggested before or if it is complicated to do, but if it hasn't, here it goes:

I would like the ability to turn off seeing who wins in a replay from the replay vault. I like watching a few replays for the entertainment value, and this more fun when I don't know who is winning.

People can't read a popup windows or the what's new tab, but they can't manage to not read a text in the right of the screen !?

"People" can't read a popup window or the what's new tab?

And yes, it is possible to block the right part of the screen while the replay is loading, but it would be better if there was a box to tick that said "display result y/n" or something like that. It reminds me of this update:

We’ve replaced the current random faction option (closing your eyes, hovering your mouse over the icons and click) by a computerized random (probably less random that the previous method

It's not a particular case when it's about 60% of the people connecting to the lobby :)

This is a fine suggestion; some sort of spoiler protection is used in every equivalent "replay vault" that I've ever used for various RTS games. Seeing all of the involved player's names without spoiling the game is currently only possible if it's a ladder match and is thus titled with their names.

Personally I would prefer there be no indication of the winner vice a forced one.

It actually didn't bother me that much, but it's a good suggestion indeed :)

Reminds me of how on some sports apps, you are asked when you load it up whether you want to see scores or not. It's a simple variable. If you choose not to show scores, then all of the scores of games that have been completed simply do not appear.

I am not a coder, so I'd have no clue how it could be done here, but that'd be the effect of it, I presume.

This really needs to be done as soon as possible. Honestly, the entire system for finding replays seems annoying. You can't look at the player name or rank because doing so would spoil the game. It's crazy how there's no option at all to just show the players and their ranks without also showing the winners.

I should not have to cover my screen with my hand while selecting a replay in order to actually enjoy it. I've seen replays with highly ranked players, but I couldn't watch them because I caught the barest glimpse of who won, and I don't see the point in watching a replay if I know from the start who will win. What's even worse are the times where I had to alt-tab for whatever reason while an interesting replay was playing, only to forget that doing so would show the FAF Replay menu with the match still selected, meaning it was still showing who won.

Isn't there any possible way to change it so it doesn't show who wins, and only shows the players as well as their rank?

I'll look into it. It's a good opportunity for me to learn FAFs codebase while also learning Python :P I just wish NetBeans had a stable Python plugin...
