The issue with docking airplanes

As you might know, airplanes that land on a airstaging platform/ fatboy/ Cybran cruiser can still be attacked by air-to-air weapons. No problem in itself, but the docking/building unit also takes damage.

To fix this we could give air-to-air weapons a damage type that does no or very little damage to ground targets.

Air staging in itself isn't used enough for the change to be worthwhile, unless you can provide the code/instructions necessary
Although the underusage of air staging is a problem in itself

I agree with what OP said and Air Staging/Aircraft Carriers could probably use a whole utility redesign. ASFs spam being another thing that should be addressed but probably never will.
FA is a game of economic micromanagement (what StarCraft players mistakenly call 'macro') and tactical trumping (e.g. T2 PD countering T1 Spam).

I believe ASF spamming is being addressed in the balance update... By making ASF spam spammier.

But moving on, yeah, it would be nice if a plane would automatically seek out R&R if sufficiently damaged/low on fuel, and it was idle.
