Mod Suggestion

Postby Softly » 04 Jan 2013, 20:41

I have a suggestion for a fun mod...

I got this idea while playing a 1v1 on Shuriken Island, and I was so confused and had no time to micro anything. The most awesome thing would be if I had other people managing my units for me...

So the idea for the mod is this: Each team gets one ACU to start, and anyone on the team can give orders to any of the teams units. That would make for some really exciting "1v1" games on the really big maps, that aren't so quickly decided by mistakes / loss of focus. It would require some pretty nice teamwork from the team too, deciding how to eco, where to attack, how to win :)

Its already possible to sort of manage this if you put cheating on, but then setting up a 4v4 in this style would be incredibly hard work, so I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to make this into a mod?

Wow! I've wanted this exact thing for ages! I'm very much a macro/eco player and struggle to keep up with micro so would love some crazy 2 player co-op mode to redistribute the micro.

Would work fine if you could both control all units but I thought some restrictions could probably make it easier to avoid interfering with each other:
  • First 60 seconds only the macro player can move units.
  • Micro player can't upgrade economy buildings.

You could really increase the teamplay and co-operation aspect by adding more restrictions - only micro player can move units, more restrictions on what the micro player can build or upgrade.

I look forward to it, didn't know it was planned.

Would that be something I haven't done already?

I thought about this and think it would be an awesome feature, although I don't think it should have to be split into a "macro" player and a micro player. I was thinking teams of up to 4 (or why not more :D), and it would randomly decide who gets to start the base etc.

something like that already exists. look here:

all you need to do is make it compatible to the lobby (and it can become a featured mod) and adjust it to your likings...

Thats close to what I'm after but ultimately has a few shortfalls, not least to do with the compatibility issues. I would prefer if each "team" started with just one ACU, and then theres issues with it requiring cheating on etc which means you could never play a serious game with it.
