Unfair exclusion on ladder when a internet router reboot.

Postby Guig Esprit du Sage » 27 Sep 2012, 01:05

Hello,
Like some others players, sometimes, my Internet router have to reboot or reconnect. If that happens and everything works correctly, in my case, it take 1.5 minute long.
But when playing ladder, there no one player that is fair enough to wait to see if the other player come back. Everybody just kick after 50 seconds and get the easy win.

I think a better mechanism should be included to avoid this. For example a longer time to wait in case of disconnection on the ladder, or maybe, if the player come back but have been excluded by the other before 2 minutes (2 minutes was the established waiting time in tournaments in GPGnet) the player don't get a defeat.

a friend of mine has trouble with his router, too. but strangely he cannot reconnect to a game. even if his internet was only for 10 seconds down.

are you sure, that you CAN reconnect after your router rebooted?

after a router reboot you wont be able to reconnect undepending from the actions of the other player, and even if, how should the other player know? if he got router problems fix it ot deal with it

if you can explain your problem exactly maybe you can get support in the TechSupport forum

It's UDP. If you keep the same IP, you will reconnect.

I always wait for 2 min and try to chat with my fellow opponent on IRC .

It will register. It would be too easy to close FAF to avoid a loss.

i think the problem of the thread poster is not, that he cannot reconnect, it is, that he takes 90 secs, while you can kick ingame after 50 sec. I think in ranked the limit to kick should be 120 seconds.

but it should add up, so 30 sec drop, and another 90 sec drop and you can kick, cos it adds to 120. If the one who lags does on purpose it could be annoying (he could do it to make the opponent leave).
