3715 ongoing development thread

Hello there,

this thread is meant to give you an overview of what is going on regarding the next game development/bugfix patch.

I will tag all Pull Requests for this patch with the 3715 milestones so you can easily filter and find them here.
The following changes are currently merged into the deploy/fafdevelop branch and thus available for public testing via the FAF client by playing the FAF Develop game mode:

  1. More detailed unit info and small improvements - improve unit information, display dps and weapon damage (billy, nuke, com nuke etc) ; also inform about the upgrades on sacu presets
  2. Fix bigger strat icons - fixed icons that were broken last patch with the UI scale feature
  3. Improved usability Cheat menu
  4. Quantum optics facility fix - fix a bug allowing the eye to give underwater vision on the last spot without having the eye enable.
  5. Fix tarmac spawning - spawn explosion decals when structure dies
  6. Window Resize Fix - fix chat and minimap repositionning when resizing the game
  7. Lobby enhancements + refactoring - allow single player lobby to get the features from the multiplayer lobby.
  8. fix explosion killing trees for arties
  9. fix mermaid torpedo hitbox - makes mermaid easier to hit with torpedo
  10. alternative hotbuild - new hotkey preset layout + factory template hotkey + allow to bind to `chevron` key : >
  11. Bomber/arties decals/shaking - makes bomber and arties properly spawn decals on impact. Add impact decals/shaking for several units.
  12. Fixing armor - add experimental armor to air/navy/building experimental and remove firebeetle armor
  13. AI Update V8 - fix the game slowdown on long AI games + other improvements
  14. Loading tips improvements - improve current and add new loading tips
  15. Move faction data out of the functions
  16. add topological sorting for mods - allow to correctly sort mods so you can apply their changes in the correct order
  17. Replaced product menu with dynamic mod filters - Allow to spawn units from mods with cheat are allowed
  18. TMM: Add startspot command line option to autolobby - Adapting autolobby for team matchmaker
  19. Update resource structure description
  20. Prevent the game from sending bogus game results caused by early exit - An attempt to fix wrong game rating reward
  21. Shaders Needed for SCTA Mod
  22. RU lobby localization changes - improve russian translation for the lobby
  23. Speedup of score sync - fix lag watching replay at fast speed, also improve performance ingame
  24. Platoon movement - improve scripted army movement
  25. Fix for various hit boxes for wreckages - fix wreck hit box for unit having death animation, also prevent reclaim from cancelling death animation when the unit is killed by a shot (doesn't apply to volatile structure)

If so i'd advise you to add 3 different options instead of just on/off because right now you have to leave this option on to get some basic unit stats (Like checking shield hp which is otherwise invisible). What could also work is to have some basic unit stats, which are now only displayed when you have the display more unit stats on, on by default. Either works for me. However combining the 2 could be very bad for competitive play since you are basically forced to have it on.

If it doesn't belong to this option then nvm kappa

the option has been renamed to construction tooltip information, you have 3 level : on / limited /off

A new hotkey preset layout : Alternative hotbuild

Aim of this hotkey layout preset, is to reduce the number of hotkey to learn, and make them easier to learn.
This come with the ability to use a cycle in the factory in order to build unit, like you would do when building structures.
you can access all tech level of a unit type, that are available for a factory, by pressing several time on the hotkey. You build them by clicking (left click anywhere on the screen; shift click = 5 units are ordered). You leave the cycle mode, by pressing middle click, or you give a rally point to the factory (right click).
This hotkey layout is designed only for qwerty. You can build ~80% of unit used in the a game by knowing 6 hotkeys (Z, X, C, S, D, F)
The drawback is that you will need more click than with current hotbuild to build a unit.

This comes with the ability to reverse cycle, by pressing alt-hotkey. This come in handy if you have a lot of template for example, and you want to build one of your last template.

On top of this, you now can build factory template with hotkey. Btw if you prefer the hotbuild preset layout, but you like the factory template hotkey, you can bind it in the f1 menu.

As usual you can test that on the FAF feature mod : FAF develop

That's awesome! I don't know if the layout has been finalised, but if I may suggest some useful hot keys:

  • Select idle air scout
  • Select air fighters
  • Select idle transport

Another trick I found useful to reduce the number of keys is to modify keys. For example, [X] = select idle engineer, [shift+X] = select all idle engineers on screen, or [X] = select air fighters, [shift+X] = select idle air scout. In other cases keys might also be able to overlap, for example select and center on ACU and OC key (if ACU is already selected). Or select idle transport and transport unload key.

it's definitely up for debate and can still be changed.
I kept the hotbuild one for :
- Select air fighters : ctrl - Q
- Select nearest idle Engineer : Alt - Period
select idle transport doesn't exist but can be implemented
as for idle air scout, it wasn't in hotbuild, so it's not in this one, but we can find a place for it indeed.

Updated the main post with 7 new PRs. There is around ~8 to be accepted still. We might leave some for the next patch and push this one out for the end of this month or the beginning of the next one. As usual test the "FAF Develop" featured mod, if you want to get any surprise when this get pushed.

last PR have been merged, i will give it 1 week of testing. Please host some game with feature mod "FAF Develop", so we can spot any introduced bug before patching.
