ways to find out if a player will lag before the game starts

Are there any other ways (besides from ping and CPU score which FAF uses) to tell if a player will lag?
Maybe checking latency with RTT or TTFB, showing connection jitter or round trip time. I have seen players with low ping have bad lag, and players with high ping (400) have no lag.

maybe even create a very small lobby game which shows a preview of the game quality.
just some ideas

Hey,

There are two possible causes of lag.

1) Bad connection - if someone has ping or low connection, the lobby will display it. If the lobby does not display it, it means the ping is under <500 ms (which is enough to play supcom as the engine runs at a fixed speed that is pretty slow, with an added artificial latency)

2) Bad computer - The lobby shows a CPU value for each player that helps you see if they have a powerful pc or not.

This is pretty much it, and should be enough for the most.

TA demo recorder had a pair of commands: .pltest and .plresults. It would spam a player with packets at a high rate for a few seconds and give you packet loss stats. would indicate if there's some router dropping packets under load. Was also great for creating lag in game if you wanted to teleport your flashies into dude's base.
