Change To The Restrictions Screen

Postby AaronD » 04 Jul 2016, 01:19

I like that we have more control over the unit restrictions now, but I find it difficult to add the same restrictions that I'm used to. Not everyone knows what the symbols at the top of the restrictions screen represent, and while I'm clicking each one of them on and off to figure them out I have people joining the lobby, trying to speak to me, and then leaving because they think that I'm afk.

I'd like to see the icons changed to words like: "No Air", "No Nukes", "No Intel", or be able to go to another tab on the same screen that has the restrictions listed this way.

Well, the Infotext is to way to long to be displayed near all icons. Thats why we use icons in the first place ^^

Maybe i have a better idea. (I guess Hussar will kick me in the face if he read this) :mrgreen:

Why not simply add the Chat to the UnitManger. This way you can go klicking units and still read or answer the chat.
Mabye with a small tab on the bottom screen to expand or collapse the Chatwindow :twisted:

[Edit] UnitManager == Restrictions Screen

Well, everyone should know what these icons represent since most of them are also used in the game. Thrust me when I say that you should learn these icons if you want to be a good player.

No, that is very bad idea and I agree with Uveso that Infotext is to way to long to be displayed near all icons. Thats why we use icons in the first place

No, I will not kick you in the face :) However, adding chat functionality to the UnitsManger might be too complicated and I think it will not be worth it. It would be better if you try to decouple chat from the lobby code and move it to separate module that is hosted in a separate collapsible/movable window such that it is always visible on top of other screens (e.g. Map Options). As to the issue of host appearing afk while setting restrictions, maybe UnitsManger should post messages to chat window when a restriction is being enabled.

I don't play this game every day. I get in the mood a cuople times a month at the most, and I just want to watch a lot of ground units die a fiery death. I'm sure that I could learn what all those icons mean if I played every day, but once again I don't.

What about my idea of adding worded restrictions in another tab? I just want to cliff "No Air" and be done with it, not have to go through the 30+ icons while other people join the game and eventually think that I'm AFK.

@AaronD.

What about a "new player" sound or a icon to inform you about new players in lobby ?

That still doesn't do anything to address the actual problem. I've been playing once or twice a month since 2010 at least, and I've always just clicked "No Air", "No Nukes", "No Naval" ect... It's easy. I could learn the icons for this new system if I played enough and often enough, but I don't. I'm a very casual player and this new screen has really thrown me off.

Well i thought your problem was that players leaving your lobby because they think you are afk while you set your options.

So you want text instead of icons in general.

Ok, this is a problem. Even if we use shortcuts, the text would be to long for replacing the icons.
Actually i have no good idea then. :/

I've already said it, several times. :!: My problem is that I do not understand the icons. Understanding of what each icon means can only come from regular play, and I don't play FA enough to learn these icons.

So my suggestion is that a new "tab" is made where the restrictions can be listed as they were before.

How about show the normal restrictions and have an advanced button for the new filter screen, so we don't scare away players.

How is this a problem? One session to quickly mouse over the symbols to find the ones you want (They're all there) and you're done. They have tooltips...
