Map ratings in vault

Postby seero » 18 Dec 2015, 23:34

I would be very pleased if someone could slightly adjust the map rating system in vault.
a) Remove ratings completely (because it is used mostly only by trolls) or
b) Make ratings visible (who rated and what, to point out the trolls and OC them)

There seems to be few guys who just keep downvoting every map, without even downloading it. Egon posted a screenshot in his mapmaping topic where his map was rated 1 start whit 0 downloads.

New maps are definitely the spice of this game, and it isn't really encouraging to go on with further mapping projects (especially, when it comes to someone with first map ever) if every map you upload get instantly voted with lowest possible rating.

You also shouldn't be allowed vote without at the very least downloading the map, or preferably playing it.

No voting unless you've played the map is what needs to happen.

Shouldn't be a hard thing to code eh?

I don't really care. Good maps getting troll downvotes is more important than some bad maps not getting a bad enough rating. Discouraging new mappers would be my main concern.

So the map rating system is broken as it is. But do you think that people look at it at all? And if they would, do you think that the majority vote would result in a good valuation of the map? I don't.

I'm one of the many that rarely hosts, but whenever I see a map hosted that I don't know, I join that game. (So even sometimes a Voodoo map.)
I fully agree that new maps keep the game interesting. I actually think that even the Gap-players like some diversity, since Dual Gap is played a lot at the moment.

I would say that we need another way to promote new maps. Maybe the What's New should be replaced by a blog, with a subsection for presentation of new maps.
