FAF Proxy servers in each country/region?

Postby Snappahead » 18 Jul 2015, 08:29

Gigabit fiber is coming to my town. When it gets here it would be enough bandwidth for me to host a FAF proxy server for the US (west coast).

Is automatically using the closest proxy server something that would be doable in the client code?

This might really help with lag if everyone could connect to a nearby proxy, instead of going from AUS to Europe to AUS for example.
Other people with monster bandwidth might be able to host a proxy in their country / region too. If Aussies had one it could really help them.

This is something that has been brought up in the past. It is possible though it would require changes to the current proxy implementation. At the moment the developers are working on ways to reduce the need of the proxy rather then relying on creating more proxies.
