How to mod (can I install original SC and FA together?)

I found some mod tutorials. Unfortunately, they're geared for the original Supreme Commander and not Forged Alliance.

I'd like to do these tutorials. So can I install SC when I already have FA? Can both these games be installed simultaneously? Can they co-exist? I don't want to mess up my FA installation. Thanks.

Hi, I installed SC. But I'm getting an error message when I patch from 3223 to 3251.
The error message:

Error parsing
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\config\machine.config
Parser returned error 0xC00CE556

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. I installed SC using the DVD from Supreme Commander Gold Edition.

By the way, I get the same error when upgrading form v3189 (the version that came with the retail dvd) to 3280 (the last cumulative patch for SC - the original version SC1).

Problem solved by installing SC on the default drive C.

I now have both working. FA is on D: drive.
