Im trying to better my Moding tools. Currently I'm just using Notepad to do my scripting and feel this is not the way i should be doing things. Is there a editor or library that i can get from somewhere to help with the scripting (i.e. catch bugs and type-oh's)? It would help tremendously.

Notepad++ is a great tool ;)
If you use a editor only with syntax highlighing (and no auto-complete) you learn very quick
For python programming I use pydev (python IDE for eclipse)

If you still want to have a very basic notepad, but with all extra features like code highlighting, change notification, more advanced search replace, etc etc etc.
(there is even a version with code folding)
I really like Notepad2.

You can use it stand alone, or replace regular windows notepad. I never use notepad++ anymore ;)
