Vanilla SupCom Animation format

Postby Centurin » 01 Jun 2018, 10:09

I've been recently converting a number of mods and units from FA into the original SC. I've successfully converted most of TotalMayhem and Blackops units as well as the new units added by FA. The biggest hurdle so far has been walking animations. None of the custom walking animations from FA (TM Mechs, Blackops Goliath, Percival, etc) work properly. The units just slide around. From what I can tell, the BP file references work exactly the same in SC as in FA.

Is there a difference in the engine preventing them from working? All other animations seem to port over fine (Novax, battlecruiser, tank and turret animations). Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hello Centurion,

the animation function is the same.
Sliding units and weaponfire that is only drawing a red line is mostly a wrong filepath or a bug inside the unit script.
If you look at your game.log then you will see many errors (WARNING).

Fix them first.

If you plan to post a game.log here, please post the full log as attachment or upload it at https://pastebin.com/

Well, I'll be damned. Seems the script file has to be clear of errors in order for the animation to work. Probably so the TWalkingLandUnit is properly passed. Thanks for the heads up.

Now if only I could get XACT to accept ADP files, I could make custom sounds. But that's a whole nother can of worms.

Well i don't know what ADP files are, but here is a tutorial how to use the .xsb and.xwb sound files:

Maybe this can help.

Supcom and FA use different wav formats. That's why FA banks don't load in Supcom and vice versa. In addition, XACT only accepts 8-bit and 16-bit pcm. Supcom audio files are in a 4-bit compressed format called ADPCM. Therefore, I don't think making soundbanks for Supcom is possible which is unfortunate.
