What does FAF change of Forged Alliance to make mods require specific compatibility with the Steam version of the game?
Is there any way of updating to the FAF version of the game without needing to use FAF client itself?

I seem to have run into a bug in Exp wars. The UEF Tech1 Mobile AA Gun doesn't have a weapon.

This is not easy to explain :)

FAF has several bugfixes and enhancements compared to the vanilla/steam game.

As example;
The vanilla game is using 8 different Weapons to create a nuke explosion.
Let's say they are named "NukeACU", "NukePARAGON", "NukeMissile" etc.

In FAF we merged those 8 weapons inside one weapon and named it "NukeForall".
This change was made to reduce repeated code and make the game faster.
Normal units can handle this without any patch.

But now the mod-author decided do give his T1 land scout a nuklear weapon.
And because there is no "NukeScout" weapon, he is using a weapon from another unit like "NukePARAGON" instead of creating his own "NukeScout" weapon which would work with FAF.

But FAF has no longer a "NukePARAGON" only a "NukeForall".

And the unit crashes.


You can start the FAF gameversion directly without starting the FAforever Lobby by clicking the executeable:

C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe

But you can't use this for steam, because FAF does not change any original files.

Checked the unit UEL0104 and its working.

But i found a bug when the unit reached veteran level III

Does the unit has a higher veteran level when its not fireing ?

No. The factory was building them without the guns at all. I was playing coop at the time though and it was around that time my icon problem started too come to think of it. Wonder if my faf install has been corrupted or something. Thinking of reinstalling, but my slow internet makes me cringe at the thought lol.

OptimusPrime retired and as such it was pretty much just me for a while. Being that the community isnt really into my work I've moved on as well.

Note : There maybe a version of 4DC on he vault thats more current then what you may have seen on Mod-DB. If not ask some of the board admins as I uploaded a copy to them about a month ago. (for safe keeping and historical reference ect.)
