Some turtle questions

Postby Gidian » 23 Jan 2015, 14:54

Hello together,

first of all: my English is not that good, so please excuse my mistakes. ;)

Once or twice a year I leave "normal life" together with two friends to play pc games for 3 days. We love to play RTS games, but in a very relaxed way. Meaning we are typical "turtles" who like to build up strong bases instead of rushing the enemies. And we always play in a team against the computer.

For about five years FA is one of our favourite games. The only problem is, that even turtle opponents don't have a powerful defense. So it always ends up in a quick rush without any resistance. It would be great, if the end of the game would be a bigger challenge.

We only played the normal version of FA, so I don´t know anything about the mods out there. If I got i right, FAF is a collection of different mods, isn´t it? So would it be the right "addon" for us turtles, to make FA more challenging? Of course, the new fraction, units and maps will also add alot new fun to the game, but it would be great, if also the AI is improved. And a higher unit limit would be great as well.

Thank you for your answers.

My guess is you're asking about AI opponents?
You should play against cheating AI, on a TeamPlayAI map (search for those in the map vault and here on the forum), that is quite a challenge then.

Better still, play against each other ;) .
Peace through superior firepower.

Thanks for your reply. And yes, my request is about AI opponents.

We normally play against cheating AI (3 vs. 3) but also the turtle opponents (I think it is called "turtle" in the game) don't have a strong defense when you visit them experimental weapons. At least in the normal game withou any mods.

And no, playing against each other is not an option. ;)

the biggest thing you can do to help the AI is to run sorian ai, won't fix every problem but its definitely an improvement. You can download sorian seperately somewhere if you want to avoid faf (sadly i don't have a link anymore.. but it shouldn't be hard to find) otherwise its built into FAF along with a couple other minor ai improvements; FAF also has some tools to adjust AIX if you want it to be harder or easier built into options, not sure if these can be found seperately but someone can likely answer that. And of course I should mention that faf has all the campaign missions in co-op if you want a break from skirmishes.

As for what FAF is, its essentially an online lobby based around a set of balance changes for competitive play, though it does have a rather extensive collection of mods stored on it.

FAF sounds very good to me and I would prefer to use it instead of downloading and installing several different mods. So there is no reason to avoid FAF if everything interesting is implemented.
I will take a closer look at sorian. Maybe this will solve our "problem".

Thank you
