I'm relatively new to the game, and am running into some usability painpoints.
First off, I love the build mode, so I can select an engineer, hit "b" and then "e" for a mass extractor. When playing FAF, and building a UEF combat engineer, the build mode does not work. The same happens when playing Black Ops and selecting your commander. And I've seen it in other places as well, such as with a mobile naval shipyard added by some mod. What is the deal with this? It's very hard to get into the habit of using the keybindings if they do not work half of the time. Any way around this?
Searching this forums I came across the hotbuild mod, which is quite interesting. Assigning all the keys in a sane way requires overriding already used keys however, and I'd like to not diverge too much from "the default" layout. Unless there is a real standard alternative of which the locations are well thought out.
My second annoyance is with unit stats. A big part of the game is understanding which units are good for which task, and what counters what. Too learn this quickly, it's critically important to have the unit stats avilable during the game, so you can continuously learn. You can only see HP. Compared to StarCraft, where you can see range, fire rate,DPS and unit speed and armor type this is pretty sad (then again, you can only make 5 or so units there, so it'd be even worse if you did not have the stats ).
What I've found so far is the "more unit stats" mod (forgot the exact name, and I'm not on my Windows box). This mod is a huge help, though only shows me the stats in the build menue. I can't see them when selecting a unit. And I still can't get the movement speed anywhere.
Another help is the FAF unit database. Even though it is a rather big pain to compare units via it, or category/sort them by some attribute. What I'm really still missing are stats of units added by mods. Most notably Black Ops. I'm trying to improve my build for a survival map, and trying to find what is most efficient (dps per mass, with decent range) is quite difficult, plus I'm totally in the black when it comes to the Black Ops units. I've searched for Black Ops stats, and found some not-even-half-assed wiki pages that are of absolutely no help. Being able to view the stats in game would also totally solve that issue.
